1982-1990

A critical mass of outstanding faculty and staff demand greater acknowledgement and expanded roles in decision-making. A new college is born amid presidential transition, while special gifts create new hallmarks of academic excellence. And magical times in the old Fieldhouse bring campus and community to their feet.

Governor signs bill allowing public university employees to be represented by unions (1984)
First Presidential staff awards established (1984)
College of Engineering & Engineering Technology established (1985)
Clyde J. Wingfield becomes ninth president (1985)
John E. LaTourette becomes tenth president (1986)
